Bodleian Library; Pompeo Batoni, 'Portrait of George Oakley Aldrich' (previously, Unknown Artist). Loved this one, especially uncovering the sitter's facial scarring, painted out by a later hand).

This is Diana the Huntress by Italian artist Pompeo Batoni (1708-87). It’s also a portrait of a renowned Italian hostess of the time. It’s a beautiful picture but also an indication of what an Anglo-Irish aristocrat, in 1751, considered as ideal female beauty. I love it for its mood & colours.

Good Evening, Bluesky Family & Friends

Tonight, I'm sharing another song from Austrian Composer Hugo Wolf's "Italienisches Liederbuch". This is No. 19:
'Wie haben Beide lange Zeit geschwiegen', which means 'We have Both stayed quiet a long Time'.
In this song, a troubled couple finally has peace.
