I've picked up many postcards showing the battlefields of the Somme in the 1920s, but this is definitely one of the most intriguing. It is a postcard of Beaumont-Hamel written by a civilian living in the ruins in the 1920s.
She has labeled the photo, including the Café Renaissance, where she lives.

I'm not 100% sure who wrote this postcard, but my best guess is Anna Ledoux Bourdon (1878-1960), a shopkeeper who returned to Beaumont-Hamel before the 1921 census, and had a school-age daughter named Fernande. By 1921, only 103 people had returned to Beaumont-Hamel.

At school, I recall more WWI history than WWII.

#OTD in 1917, Pte Samson Edward Bastable of Old Hill, Staffs died whilst serving with 9th Bn Dorsetshire Regt near Beaumont Hamel at the age of 33. A bricklayer's labourer before the war, Samson had enlisted on 5th April 1916. He was buried in Munich Trench Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel.
