Cloudburst triggers flash floods in Manikaran Valley – The Tribune
A sudden cloudburst in the Manikaran Valley on Saturday night caused severe flash floods, washing away three cowsheds and three footbridges in Chhalal, Rasol and Kasol villages. The flooding of the Kasol nullah damaged several vehicles and caused panic among residents, many of whom endured a sleepless night as water level rose rapidly. The Khokhan nullah in Bhuntar also overflowed, sending water and slush into multiple houses and shops. Meanwhile, the Pirdi nullah experienced a flash flood, depositing heavy silt on the Kullu-Mohal road, partially disrupting traffic. The road leading to Gadauri village was also damaged due to another flash flood, and the Mohal rivulet swelled dangerously.

Received no proposal for operation of Visual Flight Rules at airports: Minister – The Tribune
The Union Government has said it has not received any proposal from the Himachal Pradesh government to introduce special Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations at the state’s airports, even as feasibility studies are underway for a second apron at Shimla airport to support multiple flight operations. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told Parliament that Himachal Pradesh currently had three operational airports — Kangra (Gaggal), Kullu-Manali (Bhuntar) and Shimla — all of which are licensed for VFR operations. Special VFR allows flights to operate in reduced visibility conditions, subject to specific air traffic control clearance, but no such request has been placed before the Airports Authority of India (AAI) by the state government.

A wave of concern has swept through Kullu district after five counterfeit Rs 500 notes were discovered at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Bajaura recently. The bank’s Chief District Manager, Rajender Kumar, lodged a formal complaint at the Bhuntar police station. According to the complaint, the fake currency notes, each bearing different serial numbers, were deposited into the account of Vikas Kumar, a resident of Ansar village in Aut tehsil of Mandi district. Following the complaint, the Bhuntar police registered a case and launched a full-scale investigation. The discovery has raised serious concerns, especially the uncertainty surrounding how far the counterfeit notes may have circulated in the local economy.

Residents deploy JCB to remove debris from nullah – The Tribune
Faced with the threat of flooding and water damage, local residents of Bhuntar have taken matters into their own hands by deploying a JCB and a tipper to remove debris from the Khokhan Nullah, which has been significantly narrowed due to illegal encroachments. Over time, these encroachments and accumulated debris have led to water overflowing into the Bhuntar market, causing severe damage, especially during rains. The issue came to light after traders and businessmen of Bhuntar protested against the damage caused by waterlogging, which had resulted in significant losses to goods in shops.

Remove encroachments on Khokhan nullah within 7 days: SDM – The Tribune
In a decisive move to prevent flooding and restore the natural drainage system, Kullu SDM Vikas Shukla has ordered the immediate removal of 73 illegal encroachments along the Khokhan nullah in Bhuntar. The Tehsildar and local police have been authorised to demolish the illegal structures at the encroachers’ expense if they fail to remove them within seven days. The encroachments, identified in a report by Bhuntar Tehsildar, have been obstructing the nullah’s natural drainage, causing severe flooding, landslides, and waterlogging during rains, which poses a serious threat to public safety. The illegal structures include commercial establishments such as shops, dhabas, repair centres, food stalls, salons, and residential units.
