#BigEnd
Slow Horses sits as proof-positive that my 78 episode, period-piece-style adaptation of @greatdismal.bsky.social's Bigend Books ('Gabble Ratchets') totally would've worked.

Might be time for a Bigend Books reread

Musk comes across in Farrow’s article as a cross between a Hubert’s Bigend from @greatdismal.bsky.social’s Pattern Recognition and a John Le Carre villain.
Ronan Farrow on Elon Musk: “There is little precedent for a civilian’s becoming the arbiter of a war between nations in such a granular way, or for the degree of dependency that the U.S. now has on Musk in a variety of fields, from the future of energy and transportation to the exploration of space”

it's not the Blue Ant trilogy, exactly, but maybe Hubertus Bigend fan fiction
“Luigi Mangione, 26, maintains that he is not the person featured in a bathroom sex tape being sold on the dark web for $500,000.”
Luigi Mangione Denies Starring in Seedy Sex Tape Being Sold Online for $500,000
The accused killer’s lawyer said the tape is “fake and not Luigi.”

Dinner with Bigend. She groans, and goes to change.

Sadly @greatdismal.bsky.social recent work is a prescient analysis of our current moment. Hubertus Bigend predicts the behavior of Musk & Theil and Putin, except Bigend actually has a theory beyond nihilistic techno-fascism fueled by a 10th century belief in eugenics.
anyway here’s @greatdismal.bsky.social in 2011 in Zero History describing the obsession with tactical clothing as a fetishized pursuit in a way that perfectly nails the combat cosplay of modern day ICE and BPD

This doesn’t sound like Bigend to you?

Or perhaps he's becoming @greatdismal.bsky.social's Hubertus Bigend.

just a cayce looking for her bigend

I would say looking at Bigend or the Klept or the Tessier-AShpool's as the desirable outcome in any way counts as misunderstanding.

I know he's supposed to look like Tom Cruise, but Mads Mikkelsen would be a perfect Hubertus Bigend.

78 *hour, not episode.

The Bigend Books as a 78-hour maxi-series (I think Cayce, Hollis, & Milgrim would all appreciate that, for different reasons), 39 eps, at 13 eps over 3 seasons, 2 hours per ep. s1: 'Pattern Recognition,' s2: 'Spook Country,' s3: 'Zero History'. 2-year gap btwn s1/s2 & s2/s3…

Insulting to Hubertus Bigend, honestly

I just realized that I've read/reread at Least:

The first seven Expanse novels, the Bigend Books trilogy, 'Glass Houses', 'The Future of Another Timeline,' the Teixcalaan duology, Wrong Way, and probably at least one Pratchett book, all in the past 6-ish months.

That's… that's a whole lot of book

Spook Country. You didn't name ingredients. Bigend liked them but Inchmale explained what it meant to Hollis IIRC.

you can learn everything you need to know about billionaires from the tessier-ashpools, josef virek, and hubertus bigend

the vampire billionaire obsessed with achieving the smoothest possible body is obviously ridiculous but also further evidence that these people are so removed from actual human experience that even having a body is something to be forcibly divorced from pleasure and, if at all possible, monetized

in william gibson's second book of the hubertus bigend trilogy spook country in 2007 he had a character use the term cold civil war

I think @greatdismal.bsky.social wonderfully delved into the operator cult aesthetic in his Bigend trilogy.

Cayce's dislike of Bigend is indeed personal, albeit secondhand, a friend having been involved with the man
in New York. The friend always referred to him as "a Lombard," her acronym for "Loads of money but a real dickhead."

very Gibson-esque imo. it's got the "cyberpunk is just noir/hardboiled detective with a lick of paint" of Neuromancer but then the "treat current day/existing tech as if were sci fi" of his Bigend stuff.
