We need these periodic reminders sent to the provincial government every damn day. Forever.

It's unbelievable that a Canadian elected government (in a deficit) is choosing to spend money to make a situation worse, for everyone.

And there's no way to hold them accountable.

Periodic reminder that the Ministry of Transportation knows that ripping up Toronto’s protected cycling network will not “fight gridlock” or reduce traffic congestion. From the Ontario Superior Court:

One of the most divisive issues of the election was never really about bike lanes it was about who gets to be safe on our streets.

But the data hasn't changed & neither has the message to our premier: Bike lanes save lives.

May be the last night with the asphalt still in place.
What a waste of time and money.

Of course laws are still applicable to this work.

Those workers still have a right to a safe workplace.
That contractor still has an insurer.
The only thing #Bill212 shielded them from was the impacts of this work.

They still have to abide by municipal, provincial & national laws and regulations.

Please keep me updated on when the grind and pave happens.

I want to see the 🎪 when their grinder hits the hundreds of bolts that are still below the asphalt and anchored into the concrete road base.

🍿
#Bill212
It's a lot of angle grinder action, so assume the answer to the "if they know what they are doing" query is, They don't.

Now that everything has been removed from the road 😡, the next stage is the mill & pave, (aka grind & pave, or shave & pave)

The top layer of asphalt will be ground off the road to prep for new asphalt & line markings

It's not like there wasn't plenty of research, design guidance & data stating that this is exactly what was going to happen when APS was removed.
People will die.

Did the province wipe themselves of any liability for the consequences of removing APS, like they did for removing bike lanes?

When you need police protection to remove infrastructure used by people with disabilities, you know you are on the wrong side of history.

#Bill212
Toronto is not having it.
October 15, 2026 at 2:15 PM
The people of Ontario gave you no such mandate.

You got votes from 13% of the population, 300k total votes in Toronto

What you're doing will make congestion worse.

So, what exactly are you doing?

Why do you need more of our money to do it if you're such a good businessman?

#Bill212
😔 The transportation minister assures me I’m next though
October 16, 2026 at 6:49 PM
The main reason it can't is because of Bill212.
A lane removal would be required to do what was done in the West side.
October 16, 2026 at 7:01 PM
You may ask why it's being put back exactly where it was, instead of getting the greenery, etc that is on the west side, further south?

#Bill212 prevents the adjacent lane from being removed to add the green, etc. So instead, the size of the bikeway was maximized with robust concrete protection
October 16, 2026 at 7:03 PM
It's never been about the bike lanes.

It's so much bigger than that.

If it was *just* about bike lanes, the province would have jumped at the city's much less expensive proposal to add back a traffic lane and keep the bike lanes.

But they rejected it.

#Bill212
Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests.

@breachmedia.ca dove into the politics of cycling, and debunked some myths along the way

#Bill212 stops that.
Once the province takes it out, it becomes a car lane.
They don't need the bylaws to be passed by council.

We can't get money for healthcare, but we can get a bottomless budget to remove accessible infra that people in this area voted for.

When a privileged minority over-ride the needs of the majority and get police protection to do it - you have to question who the police are here to protect

RoDARs doesn't matter anymore . They have amended it and can do what they want due to Bill212
October 14, 2026 at 4:33 PM
If you haven't read #Bill212 - this is essentially why they can do whatever they want.

The wording is wild.

Something you'd use to defend the ability to save lives, in war time, etc.

But no, this is for the removal of bike lanes

October 15, 2026 at 2:00 PM
No, they can modify their permit because Bill212 lets them do whatever they want.

Obviously safety, businesses and traffic congestion are not important if this is what they are choosing to do
October 14, 2026 at 4:11 PM
. when faced with colder overnights, & to get work done before asphalt plants shut down, etc, daytime work can be requested. But is usually denied unless it's an emergency due to safety.

The issue with Bloor is that this is the province. And the city can't really deny anything because of #Bill212
October 14, 2026 at 2:58 PM
Bill212 supercedes permits.
Yes, they got them, as per process and they provided traffic management plans (for nighttime work), but changing them is not subject to process.

Loopholes galore when a bill exempts them from liability.

I dont even know if their plans were reviewed by an engineer.
