What I want from a banking app: To instantly see my balance.
What the bank thinks I want: 15 second slow fade in of welcome text that can't be skipped, then a modal that shows me things have changed, then a tour of features I will never use, then a virtual assistant to ask me what I thought.

I did online banking support in the early oughts. For every old lady who figured out online billpay there were at least ten young'uns who couldn't tell me what a browser was. I can't imagine it's gotten better, especially when a lot of people's internet access is through their phone, if any

This sounds like a textbook example of why techbro billionaires and know-nothing 19 year olds shouldn't be making decisions about government services.
The idea that "JUST USE THE INTERNET" isn't an easy replacement for a lot of Social Security recipients doesn't seem to have factored in at all.

My landlord still only takes paper checks. I use my bank's billpay for it but our local USPS is complete trash and the checks get to her PO box at all kinds of weird dates.

Stop using your cards. I pulled cash out of my bank last week at the bank w/ a teller. Chris is canceling our debit cards on Monday. I sent emails to both Visa and Mastercard every day since the news dropped. Im slowing switching all of my bills to Billpay and/or ACH drafts.

My bank updated its billpay website recently so that it looks like a phone app, rendering UX so poorly on full screen that I accidentally paid a large bill twice. I just tried to look up some technical videos on YouTube and those are now all in portrait in a vertical scroll and also now useless.

I was trying to use my mom’s bank’s billpay for her home health aide care for the last 2 weeks, and it was over the limit. And no instructions on how that might be increased. How helpful.

(Aside: You pay your bills, you don’t let anyone withdraw from you. Use the billpay your bank provides, but if a company wants to auto-bill you, it’s not worth the savings, because if you’re precarious? They’ll overdraft you. Mistakes might be one in 3.6 million, but that’s one day’s transactions.

You could use BillPay if your bank offers it through your online banking. It will mail your designated payee a check and usually withdraws the money from your account to do so, I believe.
