2/3 St Swithin, or Swithun, is the dedication of four Norfolk churches, among them Bintree, where a 19th Century statue of him holding Winchester Bridge stands in a niche of the south porch. The church is no longer in use.

The Black-bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill, Norfolk. Often elusive, going missing for days, the bird put on quite a show today.

Our walk today at Bintree.

Spot the Dipper! On my 3rd attempt, I caught up with the Black Bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill this afternoon. A Norfolk tick for me and a very satisfying bird to see!

Shopping in Fakenham was followed by a 5th drop-in to the mill at Bintree. Four soggy souls looked forlornly from the white bridge in the thick drizzle. We checked from bridge to bridge three times & then on our last look at the mill...
Black-bellied Dipper!

A much-needed day out yesterday, with Will & Sarah. With thanks to @vannabartlett.bsky.social for info, we tracked down seven Snow Fleas at Felbrigg (one in a new area) and, while waiting around Bintree Mill, amused ourselves with scores of Bristly Millipedes on the building walls. Stunning, both.

A trip round the broads and nearby today produced 88 species with highlights including RN Duck, smew, scaup, Tundra Bean, swans, lots of cranes etc. finished off at Bintree mill for nice views of the Dipper #NorfolkBirding

Another magical day in Norfolk, blown away by the Hares with a supporting cast of both Grey and Red legged Partridges. A couple of Brambling seen on route to the grand finale of the day the Black bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill. Great to see the sun! #ukbirding

As the gloom descended & the drizzle got thicker & wetter we were chuffed to find the Bintree Black-bellied Dipper roosting under the mill bridge tonight. Checked the books ~ my 1st BBD since the monster TG04 bird in 2009.
Love it when a plan comes together 😊

Good to catch up with the Black-bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill this misty morning. BM was my first ever birding patch, but this is the rarest thing I have seen there in 40+ years!

Three weeks ago we saw this Great White Egret rise from the flood meadow at Bintree & found it later just up the road at Guist, on trees by the river. Today it was elegance all the way, back on the meadow.
First hints of spring aigrettes on the way too.

Decided to try out luck on the Bintree Dipper this afternoon but it decided to be elsewhere. A nice GW Egret lifted off from the floods by the mill & we saw it later on the Wensum at Guist (or sat in an alder over the Wensum). Ever so slightly incongruous.

After being away from Norfolk for perhaps the most bird productive five December days ever I was relieved to catch up on some great seasonal birding on an amazing Sunday. Black-bellied Dipper, Eastern Black Redstart, 35+ Common Cranes, Glossy Ibis and Black-shouldered Kite #NorfolkBirding

It supports standard tensors, and *non-cubical* tensors given by applicative functors, as well tensor indexing.

So if you have a 't : Tensor [BinTree, BinTree] Double' and you index outside of the shape of the tree, you get a *compile-time* error.

For the first time since the spring, I'm up to date getting my photos off my camera. Best bird photo is this showy Sparrowhawk from a visit to family in the Lakes with @andyappleton.bsky.social in Nov. Best local patch bird was this Black-bellied Dipper at Bintree Mill in Dec. #NorfolkBirding 🪶

Morning. A day mainly of domesticity today, possibly with an outing to Bintree for bread and veg.

Also must get the Valentine’s Day pies onto the website. Just over a month to go…

I found these two #sawflies at Bintree Wood in May and have now identified them as Aneugmenus fuerstenbergensis (both males) which is apparently new for Norfolk. Thanks to @andymus.bsky.social for confirming.

My day out in the sun last week now feels a long time ago, but the minibeasting included these fabulous weevils, which we think are Dorytomus longimanus. Birdwise, the highlight was finally seeing the Bintree Black-bellied Dipper - and apparently being the last people to do so, watching it at dusk.
