One clarification: bioRxiv is not prescriptive in either direction. We offer a spectrum of licenses. It is entirely the author's choice (unless they are have a funder requirement for CC BY or are government employees for which work is copyright free). 1/2

I just published: If I could start over as a PhD student today, in 2026, what would I do?

A conversation with a PhD student on deciding career trajectories, how to actually do science, science communication, and why bioRxiv is where the real record lives.

'AI is a tool that researchers use. It is humans who are accountable for what it produces. All bioRxiv and medRxiv authors must therefore be verifiable human beings and affiliated with an organization to which we can turn if there are allegations of fraud or misconduct.'

We have always run bioRxiv and medRxiv in service of researchers, aiming to share and disseminate research responsibly. Our policies and procedures have been developed in coordination with the researc...

The last part of my PhD work is on bioRxiv! Using Cryo-EM, optical tweezers, and in-cell footprinting, we showed that FoxO1 and HNF1α TFs engage and cooperate to bind nucleosomes in vitro and in native chromatin, modulating its architecture and stability. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

It's great that psyarxiv is working on its longevity but requiring all new preprints to use a CC license is Very Bad - this license allows commercial AI firms to scrape your preprints to train models

other preprint servers like biorxiv use a much more restrictive license, which protects authors
📢PsyArXiv, the community-led preprint server for psychological science, is transitioning to a new technical platform!

This migration allows PsyArXiv to improve existing functionality and add exciting new features, setting PsyArXiv up for many more years of sustainable growth.

🔥 Check out our BioRxiv preprint where we show how cancer cell adaptations along a proliferation–robustness axis drive TME pro-tumor phenotypes. Dr. Maayan Pour asked ‘are cancer cell states are a result of a physiological response or adaptation to their environment?’

We've always been very clear that whatever license is selected, even all rights reserved, TDM is generally allowable and for now it seems safe to assume that applies to model training 2/n www.biorxiv.org/tdm

Just do what biorxiv does, leaving the license choice up to authors rather than asserting CC for everybody

Here's what's at the bottom of one of my biorxiv preprints. haven't submitted something new there in awhile but I assume it's still available

Biorxiv has some annoying AI stuff but you can opt out at least. If I can't retain copyright on preprints, I'm not gonna be posting any on psyarxiv anymore 😔
