When we are talking about illnesses, conditions, and physical features often associated with race, do you ever wonder what, exactly, do we mean by “race”? Lucky for us and for the world, we have this handy guide from bioanthropologist Holly Dunsworth. 🧪

Youngest sister's a bioanthropologist just starting grad school, previously researched plague cemeteries in Italy and is hoping to go private sector in DNA consulting or to study ancient DNA in Europe. Her undergrad work was on evolution to Black Death infections.

Happy to share my latest work with archaeologist @manuelwill.bsky.social on lithic flake variability at the Middle Stone Age site of Sibhudu, South Africa. As a bioanthropologist, this was my first non-bone paper, and I loved the interdisciplinary journey!

After spending weeks following an itinerary set by my youngest sister (bioanthropologist who took us to historical mansions and fashion exhibits) I’m now at the mercy of my brother’s special interests

He’s an IT guy (went to grad school for astrophysics), so we’re doing plane museums

As a bioanthropologist, and as the daughter/niece to a funeral director, a nurse, 2 ER docs and an ICU doc, I demand to know what sort of dark magic they are using to animate this absolute corpse.

They really let us run with our special interests. NASA and engineering camps for my brother (astrophysics grad), shadowing vets and community organizing for my sister (infectious disease researcher), archaeology club for my sister (bioanthropologist studying ancient DNA now)

Reading BlueSky today brought memories that I need to get over. Unfortunately, it reminded me of a micro-aggression I suffered when a British and a Swedish bioanthropologist told me that I was not white, but olive-skin. My family is from Southern Europe...

Hi everyone! I have been on Bluesky for a bit, but haven't been too active, and now it has rather exploded! Figured I should introduce myself a bit better. I'm a #bioarchaeologist, #dental_anthropologist, #bioanthropologist, #human_osteologist, #palaeodemography, #palaeopathologist

My maternal grandfather lost his hearing and speaking after getting measles as a child. My grandmother saw her cousin succumb to TB. As a bioanthropologist, I have analyzed individuals' remains who died before the emergence of vaccines. The people with a lower immune system quickly succumbed...
