The Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks organized an international scientific conference to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Podyjí National Park. The conference was also supported by the #Bioremo project. The participants enjoyed it very much 👏🌳. #LandscapeResearchInstitute

Im Rahmen des Interreg AT–CZ-Projekts BioReMo-Biodiversity Research & Monitoring besuchten Expert*innen des Projektkonsortiums, darunter der Naturschutzbund Niederösterreich und das Umweltbundesamt, die sogenannten „Blumenberge“ Galgenberg , Dernberg und Bockstallberg – im Herzen des Weinviertels.

Der Moorwald Gebharts bei Schrems gehört zu unseren Schutzgebieten im Waldviertel. Im Rahmen des Projekts „Biodiversity Research & Monitoring“ (BioReMo) wurde der Moorwald nun hochtechnologisch erfasst. Das Landscape Research Institute VUKOZ führte einen n LiDAR-Mapping-Überflug per Drohne durch.

Das Projekt BioReMo zielt darauf ab, einen gemeinsamen Rahmen für die Überwachung der biologischen Vielfalt in Niederösterreich, Südmähren und Südböhmen zu schaffen. Das Projekt wird den langfristigen Schutz der biologischen Vielfalt in dieser historisch und ökologisch reichen Grenzregion stärken.

The Aesculapian snake prefers moist habitats in deciduous forests. It likes to climb trees. It is a non-venomous snake that primarily hunts small rodents. It is the symbol of doctors around the world. In the Czechia, it is a critically endangered species. #BioReMo #LandscapeResearchInstitute

A few years ago, an ice storm damaged part of the forest stands in the Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks. Uprooted trees from the original forest, together with young saplings, now form a natural forest that is difficult to traverse in some places. #BioReMo

Monitoring of forest conditions in the Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks —including the development of methodologies for collecting data on the forest and the species richness of forest stands—is supported by the Interreg AT-CZ BioReMo project. #BioReMo

This summer, the BioReMo project is continuing with data collection tests in accordance with the Forest Habitat Monitoring Methodology at selected sites in the Podyjí and Thayatal National Parks. #BioReMo

As part of the cooperation between the BioReMo project partners, Lidar scanning of a forest site in the Gebharts Moor area was carried out for the League for Nature Conservation Lower Austria. The drone flight were carried out by our team on September 16, 2025.

The main objective of the new BioReMo project is to research biodiversity in the border region of Lower Austria, South Moravia and South Bohemia. Among other things, the project will result in an exchange of information between NGOs, scientists and protected area managers in the border region.
