The rose-breasted grosbeak made his autumn migratory appearance at the #BirdPorch, but I wasn't quick enough to get a photo, alas. Maybe he'll come back...

The return of a red-headed woodpecker after quite a few years without seeing one is a real joy. My new phone takes somewhat better photos than the old one, but still not as good as the "real" camera. #BirdPorch

Waving from the #BirdPorch with my (not Starbucks) mug of coffee, in my jeans and long sleeved shirt. 🎉🍂☕️

A new visitor to the #BirdPorch early this morning: a good-sized red fox who wandered through the yard about 7am. We've had foxes before, but quite a few years ago now. Maybe it's Old Fox's American cousin, @annelouiseavery.bsky.social? 😍🦊

Sunday again already? Time flies whether you're having fun or not. 😏 #BirdPorch

The news is still mostly bad, but it's a lovely morning, especially when I feel well enough for coffee again. ☕️ #BirdPorch

Already 11 am and still no lawn work going on - it's a Sunday miracle. #BirdPorch

It's cool enough on the ##BirdPorch this morning to eat these pretty little cherry tomatoes in balsamic vinaigrette, about ten feet from where they grew. 😍

Very grateful this morning for the relative calm of the #BirdPorch and environs.

One of my favorites, our tree hydrangea, is in glorious and fragrant bloom today. #BirdPorch

When it's raining (2" since sometime after midnight) and 66F after being in the 90s for days, you forego coffee on the #BirdPorch, put on jeans, and make apple cranberry crisp for breakfast.

Not the 1-3 inches they're still warning about, but it looked pretty coming down. 🤷‍♀️ #BirdPorch

This is maybe a third of the group of tri-color blackbirds that filled the backyard and feeders this morning. They come through every year but this was the biggest number yet. Positively Hitchcockian. 👀 #BirdPorch

A gloomy morning on the #BirdPorch (still recovering from Monday's treatment) made a little brighter by the surprise appearance of the first hummingbird of the season. He hovered near the empty hook where its feeder hangs, obviously wondering "Where the $#@! is my nectar!?" 😂

Afternoon sun on the succulents, with the Eastern Phoebe screaming its name somewhere off in the trees. The last pretty day before the rain. #BirdPorch

The roses decided to be especially pretty today. I'm particularly fond of the little lavender one, which has valiantly put out a few blooms each summer for the past 20 years, in spite of being the puniest plant of the lot. #BirdPorch

The mister got me this stunningly beautiful volume by @jessicasroux.bsky.social. Perfect for the coming cold weeks indoors, and great for when it warms up again enough to peruse over coffee on the #BirdPorch! An embarrassment of riches. ❤️🐦

Some pretties from around the #BirdPorch, before the pests get to them. The foxglove blooms will soon be full of big bees crawling in and out. 🥰
