Agreed, all our vital services depend on them and globally there is a real problem now with declining birthrates.

That’s when it becomes specifically a GOP issue, but the origins of the movement are a freakout about declining white birthrates in the 1880s. That’s when it becomes illegal in many states.

Japan's birthrate has risen for the first time in eleven years. You want higher birthrates in industrialised societies? Make it easier for people to raise healthy, well fed, well educated children without completely sacrificing their other dreams.

Births in Japan edge up 0.4% in January-June, thanks to Tokyo
This is the first increase in the first half in 11 years, with the capital’s 4.7% jump in births being the highest among all prefectures.

It’s hard to imagine that ‘developed’ countries won’t be competing for immigrants before long, with ageing population profiles and low birthrates together depriving us of the resources to maintain economies and expected lifestyles.

Climate change and wars will bring them to us anyway.

It will also add to the already declining birthrates which is well below replacement level anyway, if you take the one million men that fled and the one million killed or serious disabled the pool of young men to procreate just adds fuel to the demographic downward spiral.

When people frame the closures as mostly due to falling birthrates, and not revenue dysfunction or migration out of the school district, they are hiding 2/3 legs of the stool in a way that makes the current scale of closures seem inevitable.

TBH, the real threat to the UK’s benefits bill isn’t scroungers. It’s the growing number of state pensioners. I’ll be one myself in under two years, so this isn’t about denying anyone a decent pension. But with birthrates falling and net migration shrinking, who’s going to foot the bill?
Reality check: Welfare spending in the U.K. ranks in the middle of OCED countries and is one of the lowest welfare spends versus EU countries at only 10.8% of GDP.

I mean, Pratchett had rats evolving intelligence due to scavenging in the Unseen University garbage dump. Rats, cockroaches, etc would mutate faster and evolve quicker due to shorter lives and high birthrates. At the least, immunities to Repel Vermin & Remove Disease are to be expected.

The US military budget is over $1 trillion. Trump has asked for $1.5 trillion in 2027.

Resist the framing that fewer students means we can't spend as much to educate America.

I dunno, birthrates falling just doesn't seem that bad compared to everyone on earth dying.

Other groups don't engage in this.

The world is healing.

Pandas have one of the lowest birthrates in the world

Because female pandas are only fertile for 24 hrs, once a year.

The fact there are so many is an actual miracle tbh

Public schools are bracing for a double blow: declining birthrates (a decades-long trend) and deportations disrupting immigrant families. The latter is accelerating, per @BBCNews data, leading to sudden enrollment drops in districts with high migrant populations. Long-term funding and resource alloc
