I spent yesterday afternoon unpicking bitly from fesshole as it had succumbed to enshittification. So bare links to google now, which are less easy to read, but won't throw up interrupting stuff between clicking it and actually getting to the form. You utter wankers bitly.

aw I figured one day I would regret using bitly links and I guess that time has come. oh well! (I moved to self-hosting my link shortener a few years ago but I've definitely printed out some bitly links in my time)

the url, which is case sensitive, sends you to their bitly and redirects a non-facebook user to a login page. i assume they can put whatever trackers they want on bitly

it probably happened because philly uses bitly to shorten links and cut off a character which leads to a game of internet roulette
yes chubby parade dot com was exactly what you’d think but it’s a lapsed domain that’s being squatted now

Someone pointed this out on Mastodon, and I think I should probably give it some play here: Apparently Bitly is changing its terms of service so links no longer directly hit the source URL, but may hit an ad first. That sucks—a lot.

Someone pointed this out on Mastodon, and I think I should probably give it some play here: Apparently Bitly is changing its terms of service so links no longer directly hit the source URL, but may hit an ad first. That sucks—a lot.
