White kids growing up in 1980s South Africa developed a cynical, amoral form of anti-authoritarianism. Listened to the Doors. Drank, and often smoked weed. Despised the regime. But they did not believe in any alternative set of values of their own. /5
Bitterkomix
Home of Bitterkomix, plus the individual book projects of Conrad Botes and Anton Kannemeyer.

There also isn't a huge catalogue - and therefore culture - of Afrikaans language comics and graphic novels, besides Bitterkomix and Gif, two series of hardcore social- and political-satire publications that originated in the 1990s in a very different cultural landscape. 6/11

Playtopia has some cool stuff to play around with, plus a great games selection. I have had too long of a day to dig through my photos now (I was also at the Bitterkomix launch so it's been a lot to do today) but if you're in Cape Town and aren't busy* tomorrow I highly recommend it.
