Bricks thrown at firefighters in 'reckless' attack. It's beyond me how anyone would do anything like this. It just doesn't make any sense. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

While I will always celebrate investment in play, I'm wary of the idea of "destination playgrounds" for all sorts of reasons.

They are spaces for play which reify the idea of occasional, accompanied visits by car, not for ordinary, accessible, 'independent' play integrated into everyday life.
Newcastle to get four 'destination' playgrounds in £1.5m upgrade plans
Blakelaw Park, Riverside Country Park in Newburn, Elswick Park and Ouseburn’s City Stadium will each get around £250,000 worth of upgrades to turn them into flagship playgrounds

Blakelaw and Cowgate going Reform x3 is sadly predictable, as this is a limp and tattered flag zone

We're very worried about the impact that antisocial behaviour is having on the ability of people in Blakelaw to use public transport. Whilst we understand concerns about the safety of bus drivers and passengers, people rely on bus services to get around.

Great to join the hardworking local @NCLCentralWest team in sunny Blakelaw talking and listening to residents about the issues that matter to them - the cost of living, global uncertainty and anti-social behaviour by groups of people were the top issues.

More on the Blakelaw bus situation.

This is very concerning as 37% of households in Newcastle have no access to a car. Blakelaw is not close to the Metro. Cycling would be possible but are the routes adequate?

The Newcastle Central and West teams have been out in Elswick, Wingrove, Blakelaw and Cowgate, and all across our beautiful city listening to residents. These elections are so important. Use each of your three votes for Labour!

Newcastle Liberal Democrats are very sorry to pass on the news that former long-serving Blakelaw and Jesmond councillor Gerry Keating has passed away. Gerry was first elected as a Tyne & Wear County Councillor in 1981.

Local residents and youth groups have been pushing for play site investment in St Lawrence Park for some time.

Good to see this finally lead to investment.

Let’s ensure they are involved in the co-design, Newcastle City Council!

More on the incredibly concerning events in Blakelaw.

Re the role of electric motorbikes & scooters in this situation. As well as local action, there’s a clear need for Parliament to act on the recommendations in the APPGWC report (see link).

A fabulous Nigerian colleague who moved to Newcastle with her family recently is desperate to get her 8 year old son into training with a local football team. She lives in Blakelaw but hasn't managed to get a response from local clubs. Does anyone have any contacts or suggestions? TY! #NUFC

When @LucyMPowell and @annaturley joined me campaigning in #Blakelaw we had to pop into @GreggsOfficial I went for the doughnuts but Lucy went for the stotties which she said reminded her of Manchester Barm Cakes... anyone know if they are related?

Wet but rewarding to be out in Blakelaw with the fabulous local Newcastle Central and West team, talking and listening to residents about the issues that matter to them.

Littering, parking and potholes topped the list, with a lot of support for the difference Labour is making in Newcastle.

Great to be out with the fab local Blakelaw Newcastle Central and West talking and listening to residents about the issues that matter to them.

Housing, SEND provision and national security were the top issues, and Labour is driving positive change on all three.
