A new Parablechnum is in the house! Finally this publication that I made together with Weston Testo, Nico Zapata and Deli Heal has come to light, in which we describe Parablechnum shuariorum, a new species for Ecuador 👏🌿

This fern is one of the two Blechnaceae that you can find in my country, it occurs in Europe, Macaronesia, North Africa and western North America, and has a great phenotypic variability. And also it is super beautiful.

This not only broadens the REE-rich plant territory but also validates Y as a reliable REE indicator in XRF analysis of herbarium specimens. But there's more! Manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) were also detected in a large amount of specimens,  some of which were considered accumulators. (6/7)
February 8, 2024 at 11:50 AM
Out of 4425 specimens, 268 were identified to hyperaccumulate Yttrium (Y), including Blechnopsis, Dicranopteris, Gleichenella, Phytolacca, Carya, Juglans, and Sticherus. (4/7)

The goal was to uncover novel plant species that accumulate REEs through an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) survey. The chosen families were Blechnaceae, Gleicheniaceae, Phytolaccaceae, and Juglandaceae. (3/7)
