The scariest special vision is bloodvision, only because you have to question why the monster would need the ability to see through showers of blood so thick that it normally provides concealement.

You have never SEEN players so motivated to kill an antagonist. "He has bloodvision! It must be mine!"

"I'm not about to be the scrub who failed to get his government-mandated Bloodvision power!"

"Die for my minor power-up!"

A silly joke turned into a whole b-plot story arc.

Each due to an eye that had been passed down from Orc leader to Orc leader across generations, Naruto-Sharingan-style. So the Bloodvision powers were transferable to whoever got the eye transplant.

Like the Hand of Vecna, but bloodier.

One orc council member designated as a specific antagonist for each PC, designed as a foil to them in character class and general attitude.

Each with a different power they each called "Bloodvision".

I mean I could've just not delivered, but... if they wanted it this badly, why not give it to them?

Enter the Red-Eye Orc Clan.

Newly made-up Denizens of the Temple of Jing's lower levels whose tribal council each had a Jing-Eye blessed with a different type of "Bloodvision".

What's a DM to do? Hell, I even had a player ask when he had to roll up a new character if they could have a magic-item-body-part eye with "Bloodvision powers".

Inevitably this tiny little throwaway gag, a silly joke I included in my game, became something I had to deliver on.
March 13, 2025 at 12:43 PM
It was intended just as a throwaway joke, a reference to a DnD show I like on youtube called "Thrilling Intent" (so a private joke just for me, since none of my players ever watched TI)

But now all of a sudden my players all wanted it. They wanted "Bloodvision" without even knowing what it did.

The whole party started speculating on what "Bloodvision" was and why the Trickster God Jing would consider it useless (After Jing left so he didn't get ideas about blowing any of them up)

A lot of ideas got passed around about "Bloodvision".
March 13, 2025 at 12:43 PM
So I had Jing say a bunch of nonsense powers, and ended it with "and the Eye can even get some really useless powere, like I dunno, 'Bloodvision' or something."

That was when one player stated there was no such thing as a "useless" magic power and that's how it began.

Hey fellow Dungeon Masters/Game Masters/TTRPG game runners:

What's the most entertaining moment when your players made a mountain out of something you considered a molehill while planning your game?

For me? It has to do with the phrase "Bloodvision".
