Sitting at the bar (not where I took the picture) at Blue Llama. Waiting for George Porter Jr and Runnin’ Pardners to hit the stage at 7. I’m so excited. New Orleans musical royalty! Somebody pinch me!

Juicy J x Endea Owens - Can't Take That Away From Me

Lyricist Ira Gershwin was born today in 1896! So many famous songs.

I saw Endea Owens and the Cookout last night at Blue Llama. Great show!

Andrew Bishop, Jesse Kramer and Andy Peck are performing a tribute to Sonny Rollins’ live album “A Night at the Village Vanguard," recorded on November 3, 1957

A photo of a trio mid-set at the Blue Llama. Saxophonist Andrew Bishop stands front and center under the spotlight, mid-phrase, with bassist Andy Peck just behind him working a rich, warm tone on the upright, and drummer Jess Kramer off to the right, brushes in hand, tucked behind a compact kit. The club's signature neon "Blue Llama Ann Arbor" sign glows blue and red on the back wall, and a grand piano sits unattended stage left — a trio format, just like Rollins' classic Vanguard session with no chordal instrument up front, letting the horn lead. The room itself has that intimate supper-club feel: small round tables with candles and water glasses scattered close to the stage, purple and violet wash lighting, a starlit ceiling effect, and heavy dark curtains framing the back of the room. Nice tribute setting for that particular record, too — the stripped-down horn/bass/drums lineup mirrors the sax trio format Rollins used at the Vanguard in 1957. ALT by Claude
