You’ve heard of the Blueshirts, but what about the Blue Blouses? Ireland’s early 1930s photo fascist women’s organisation. #history www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...
You've heard of the Blueshirts, who were Ireland's Blue Blouses?
The vehemently anti-republican women who were involved in the proto-fascist Blueshirts, banned 90 years ago this month, are still missing from our national narrative

1/ Your kid or grandkid could be one click from a neo-Nazi recruiter tonight. A teen group called the Blueshirts uses Roblox, the game 40% of its players are under 13, to recruit kids and spread propaganda. It is happening right now. 🧵

Just seen that the Daily Mail have released a podcast called ‘From Bomb to Ballot: The History of Sinn Féin’

The week before the election.
How reactionary.

even if unsuccessful, putting him up for the chop would have forced his government colleagues to defend his indefensible conduct during the protests, damaging their standing in the eyes of the public. his FF rivals would be tempted to knife him in the back, Blueshirts hardly enthused to protect him

One of the bizarre things about Fascism, in the 1930s, was that country, after country, emulated the paramilitary uniforms & ideas of Fascism; Germany had brownshirts, Britain had Blackshirts & Ireland, Blueshirts. It was a contagion of ethno-patriotism & inane slogans about the fatherland.

Keeping the Blueshirts down?
While looking for something else, I just discovered that from 1928 till at least 1936, members of the Gardaí weren’t allowed to vote. What was that about?!

The flag, btw, used as an illustration for that Gist, was that used by the fascist-supporting Blueshirts, whose leader was the first leader of Fine Gael.
