Remember the scene where Ranbir robs a bank and then plays hide & seek with Saurabh Shukla's cop character using a sliding door?

Straight lifted from Charlie Chaplin's 1917 short film, "The Adventurer".

The scene, part of the super "Aashiyan" song, where Ranbir sits on a sofa with a dummy and entertains Jhilmil (Priyanka) is also lifted straight from the 1952 Hollywood classic "Singin' in the Rain" starring Gene Kelly & Debbie Reynolds.

The brilliant *Aashiyan* song itself is heavily *inspired* by "Salud, Amor Y Dinero" from Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass album.

Infact many music sequences have been lifted from this album.

Now where have we heard this song before? 🤔

One of my favorite scenes is where Rupa Ganguly, who plays Ileana's mom, takes her aside to tell her about her past lover. Brilliantly shot & executed!

Except that it is not original! It is lifted straight from the 2004 Hollywood film, The Notebook.

The comedy scene where Ranbir *accidentally* walks straight into a door and gets his nose bent is lifted straight from 1952 Hollywood musical comedy "Singin' in the Rain".

The climactic scene where Ranbir & Priyanka die together in each other's arms, is heavily inspired from "The Notebook".

The scene where Barfi is found fast-asleel under the cover of a statue being unveiled is a lift from Charlie Chaplin's 1931 hit, "City Lights".

The part where Ranbir adjusts his wedgie? That was original - and BRILLIANT! 😂

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here!

But let's admit it! Many of our Bollywood films are far from original!

We should do this as a series - #BollywoodChapa.

Perhaps I should do #Sholay next? Or would that be considered sacrilege?

The comic ladder scene at the very start of the film where Ranbir does a balancing act on a ladder while cops try to pull him down - it is lifted from Buster Keaton's 1922 comedy, Cops.

The Bollywood film that shall not be named was creatively rewritten with very unique and brilliant characters that remain memorable to this day! Certainly well done!

And it certainly must not have been easy to film something like this in the 70s!

In Sergio Leone' #OnceUponATimeInTheWest, Charles Bronson & Jason Lombard get together to save a widow (played by Claudia Cardinale) from being run off her ranch by the villain played by Henry Fonda.

Fonda as the villain was a highly unusual casting choice!

Scene from Sergio Leone's #OnceUponATimeInTheWest (1968) depicting the murder of the entire McBain family.

Any resemblance to scenes in the Bollywood film that Cannot be Named is purely coincidental!

While the 2004 Hollywood film "The Notebook" inspired many of the scenes, core idea of Barfi! seems to be heavily inspired from 1993 film "Benny & Joon" - which was a story about a mentally ill girl in love with an eccentric man played by Jonny Depp.

The bicycle chase scene certainly seems *inspired* by Jackie Chan's 1983 comedy hit "Project A".
