Becky Burke of Book Island (a picture book publisher in the UK founded by my fellow Tokarczuk translator Greet Pauwelijn) was "detained" by ICE at the Canadian border on 2/28. Her father asked that her story be shared in case someone can help her. He writes:

I write for both adults and kids, across many different genres.

In the UK, am probably best-known for my rainbow families children's books.

And also for translations into English, which have won PEN Translates Awards from English PEN (3 times), shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, the CLiPPA, etc.
My rainbow families children's books illustrated by Elina Braslina. Published in Scots and Scottish Gaelic by Tippermuir (both books in one volume). The Scots transltion in by Matthew Mackie and won the Scots Bairns Book o the Year Award in 2023! The Scottish Gaelic translation is by Marcas Mac an Tuairneir. Published in English and Welsh by Peniarth (as two separate titles). The Welsh translations are by Mari Siôn & Elin Haf. 4 poetry books I've translated into English. VOICE OF THE TWO SHORES is by Agnès Agboton, from Benin, and is published by flipped eye. It won a PEN Translates Award from English PEN, was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, and also was the Honorable Mention for The Glenna Luschei Prize for African Poetry. SOMETIMES I WRITE POEMS AND SOMETIMES I WRITE POEMS is by Mexican poet Martín Rangel and is published by Broken Sleep. (Poems were first published in MODERN POETRY IN TRANSLATION and UNDER THE RADAR.) POEMS THE WIND BLEW IN, written by Basque author Karmelo C. Iribarren & illustrated by Riya Chowdhury, is published by The Emma Press. It was highly commended in the CLiPPA, the first ever time a translation was recognized by UK's only award for children's poetry. It also won a PEN Translates Award from English PEN. BALAM& LLUVIA'S HOUSE, written by Guatemalan poet Julio Serrano Echeverría & illustrated by Spanish artist Yolanda Mosquera, is also published by The Emma Press. It won a PEN Translates Award from English PEN, was shortlisted for the CLiPPA and for THE WEEK JUNIOR's Book of the Year Award in the Poetry Category. My most recent adult short story collection, A BEARD PARADOX, translated into English by Sandra Kingery and published by Rebel Satori. 100 homoerotic microfiction. My translation into English of THE WORST THING OF ALL IS THE LIGHT by Spanish author José Luis Serrano, a metafictional queer lovestory set in the Basque Country, published by Seagull Press. 3 picture books and 1 graphic novel I've translated into English, published in the UK. LETTERS IN CHARCOAL written by Irene Vasco & Juan Palomino (Lantana) was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal this year. THIS IS A DICTATORSHIP written by Equipo Plantel and illustrated by Mikel Casal is published by BookIsland. THIS BOOK IS TOO QUIET! is written by Cristina Cubells & illustrated by Joana Casals, originally published in Catalan, now published in English by What on Earth! BUÑUEL: IN THE LABYRINTH OF TURTLES is a graphic novel written & illustrated by Fermín Solís and published by SelfMade Hero.
