My Youtube autoplayed a video about how booktoks spicy books aren't REAL books, and reading them isn't REAL reading. Just like how writing fanfiction isn’t REAL writing and casual games aren't REAL games. Isn't it strange how the people who enjoy/create these not real things are predominantly women.

Maybe it’s always been this way & I’m just getting cranky, but I’m convinced many of our premier literary publications have decided the future is published BookToks by people with Ivy League degrees.

All the genres have this sorta slop I think the difference is that booktoks recommended list has always been very sus for quality control and the genslop is very easy to insert into that shitty system.
