I spend a lot of time looking at & teaching about parchment recycled in the early modern era, not just in bookbindings but any place where a piece of durable parchment might be of use, like this clothing pattern cut from a saga manuscript (Magnússon Institute 122 b fol.):

(Fragments of) medieval manuscripts were often re-used in bookbindings. MA-XRF scanning can penetrate the bindings without having to take them apart and so make long lost texts legible. One of the finds is a 12th century manuscript containing a text by early 8th-century English scholar Bede.

When I say it slightly annoys me that the bookbindings are modern, idk if it’s necessary for yall to rush in with your headcanons for why it might be possible that the books in Rivendell are bound in cardboard.

#FilmSky, a quick question; what is the pettiest thing you have had to be annoyed at a film? I ask because I am watching The Gift from 2000, and the main character does divination with Zener Cards, which are not the same thing as Tarot at all. Why go for a more boring looking option?
