#Borgmatic
Scheduling restic or borg backups so you hear when they fail: systemd timer with OnFailure=, cron with a Healthchecks ping, resticprofile, borgmatic. Plus what restic did in our tests: exit 3, a dead backup's lock that blocks prune, oneshot units with no timeout. #restic #borgbackup #selfhosted
Scheduling restic or borg backups with alerts when they fail: systemd timer, cron or borgmatic
Four ways to run restic or borg on a schedule and hear about it when a backup fails or never runs: a systemd timer with OnFailure=, cron with a Healthchecks ping, resticprofile and borgmatic. Tested with restic 0.18 and 0.19, including exit 3, stale locks and catch-up after downtime.

Borgmatic backups now use `programs.borgmatic.backups..settings` for native YAML settings. Legacy `location`, `storage`, `retention`, and `consistency` options (except `location.excludeHomeManagerSymlinks`) and the six `extraConfig` options remain as deprecated [1/2]

I slipped... I wanted to delete a directory did a wildcard <term-*>

And was a bit too quick... deleted about 1 week worth of work.

Panic.

But then I remembered that... didn't I actually setup this borgmatic backup a while back, like a few months ago.

Yes, I had... and for the first time ever […]

Ok, thanks to @borgmatic I have a backup that is running and sending data to a repurposed backup drive that used to be formatted to my old backup scheme and is now fully assimilated to the borg.

I'm gonna run it for a few weeks, then convert my other hard drive that I swap between... and once […]

#borgmatic friends. I have several backup drives that I rotate through. If I list each of their mount points in the borgmatic config, and the drive isn't mounted so the path doesn't exist, will borgmatic error out, or continue with the additionally listed destinations?

ideally It'd just update […]

so I backed up my laptop with borgmatic to my NAS. In the past I had a desktop with home Dir on the NAS so I could just backup the NAS and get everything. but when the fire hit I moved most of my work to my laptop. ive been ad-hoc backing up laptop dirs manually but I really needed a better […]

Just so I don't forget: if you want to backup #postgresql with #borgmatic the config to wrap commands for the `postgres` user on #debian based distros are:
```
postgresql_databases:
- format: custom
name: all
pg_dump_command: runuser -u postgres - - pg_dump
pg_restore_command: runuser -u […]
BorgBackup supports exporting to TAR archives, so I'll try to set up borgmatic.
And then start burning DVDs with precious configs and data :neocat_mug__w:
For me, it's even easier to use with borgmatic.
I have heard about lower memory usage, but I don't have strong opinions on that. I just gave it a try and it worked.
Does anyone know why my filesystem gets read only when I try to mount a #backup from #borgmatic?
(borgmatic mount --archive [...] )
It shows an error that the destination has to be writeable and tries again. After that the filesystem is in RO mode...
