Years ago on my first educational photography trip (with Michael Reichmann late of Luminous Landscape) we explored Bosque del Apache, NM. This Red-tailed Hawk was immobile at the side of the road, probably quite ill. We could only get headshots without getting within 15 feet. For years I carried this as a Krider's subspecies, but I am revisiting that. Any input? Obviously a light morph it could be a Harlan's. I am reposting this to illustrate what Red-tails can be.

A mule deer buck in rough shape, his ear was drooping and the fur on his back was discolored and "patchy" at best. I hope his condition improves over time.
