After 41 long months, Botley road is finally open.
Botley Road has reopened at the railway bridge after 1,258 days. The new bridge includes cycleways on each side and enough headroom for a full-height double decker to pass. An extra rail span on the western side will give access to a forthcoming Platform 5 at Oxford station.

The route under the Botley railway bridge has fully opened, so I went down to see how the walking and cycling provision works. Summary: the route under the railway bridge is pretty good, the transitions on either side are terrible for cycling (and not that good for walking).

Cycle wheeling ramps are finally to be installed on Osney Lane footbridge, crossing the railway south of Oxford station and Botley Road. Network Rail will be closing the bridge on Friday between 7.30am and 5pm to install the new wheeling channels, providing an alternative to the Botley Road passage.

Oxford University and Oxfordshire County Council have called for Botley West Solar Farm’s promoters to build the long-sought B4044 cycle path from Eynsham to Botley. They point out that the cable route for the solar farm will largely run along the B4044, exactly where the cycle path would be built.
