People keep parroting the 3.5% “rule” like it’s a cheat code for revolution. Even in a country with authoritarian rot, numbers alone don’t topple power. Those wins came from disruption and real risk…not weekend strolls and hashtags.

So for those out of the loop, a No Kings Protest is happening on 10/18 against Trump.

Apparntly, there is a rule that states if 3.5% of a nation protests a governing party, it is likely to fall (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.5%25_...)

In June,protests reached half that.

Go out and protest on Saturday.

And it’s not even a rule. It came from one study of 323 movements (1900–2006) showing a pattern, not a formula. Even the researcher says it’s descriptive, not predictive. Many later movements surpassed 3.5% and failed. Correlation ≠ causation.

The 3.5% “rule” was a study, not a prophecy. You don’t topple systems by politely signaling discontent. You do it through strategy, disruption, and consequence, not branding and vibes.

Which is why the “No Kings” protest rings hollow. Fine, go march, but there are no demands, no targets, no organizing beyond a tagline. Movements only matter when they make power feel the cost of ignoring them.
