And it WILL break. These guys just bet on the breakage happening after they’re gone.

Girl who put off getting silk pillowcases for five years even though she has fine wavy hair prone to breakage. Girl who is trying its best.

It was 87° in Arvin CA this day as farm workers we're laboring doing pre-harvest work of staking young chili plants to prevent them from falling over or having stem breakage due to high winds. #WeFeedYou

stores have no idea how much shoplifting takes place, they only know when stock doesn't match records. how much is due to human error, incorrect shipments, breakage, and theft is a guess. literally cannot know if shoplifting is on the rise.

this was a radicalizing discovery for me.
"retail theft" is such a spectacular lie of post-pandemic reality-creation. it gave cover for companies to expand the surveillance state, raise their prices, and close stores in slightly less profitable areas, conveniently turning the actual solution (hire more employees) into a total non sequitur

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Almost all of the bugs and problems and breakage in the software you use is known to the engineers, we just aren't allowed to fix it. Gotta ship new features.

The number of parents that don't care much about their kids and/or have very thinly veiled resentment against them is much higher than most people think.

Every one hour of an audiobook takes three hours of work. You burn hours trying to drink away mouth pops, redoing too loud or too soft lines, and forgetting how to say “penguin”

He was concerned about breakage.
You also made him a gentle lover. Thar was a sweet wee coupling.

It continues to bother me that it’s possible for me to read newspapers from 100+ years ago and not data journalism from the 10 years ago (when I wrote about this back then, the main cause was technical breakage and not corporate malevolence)
ABC News has now fully taken down the old 538 website, including all interactive projects since 2014. Aside from erasing history this prevents access to publicly released data, including raw polls, averages, model estimates & story dta. Totally unacceptable for a company (allegedly) doing journalism

Protestantism vs. Catholicism is a faultline in the GOP coalition that the party cannot afford *any* breakage along and naturally MAGA influencers are setting off underground nukes in exactly that spot.

Every fieldwork job I had was at least 40% equipment repair, and it required human ingenuity, the reasons for breakage ranged from wasps, to weather, to heat, to bears.
it really is both insanely inaccurate and also wildly offensive to assume that scientists and reporters can be readily replaced with passive sensors
This is what popped into my head immediately upon reading that, like, okay, so all those field scientists... we can just replace them with Waymos, got it, can't wait to see how a Waymo creeps through a bush for 7 weeks just to take a photograph of a bird that nobody has ever photographed before

It is not yet clear whether the breakage was intentional, but the coast guard suspects a "grey zone intrusion by China."

Excited to share our discovery www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

that the #centrosome is prone to breakage!

Using #motile cells, we identify centrosome breakage during #pathfinding, caused by #actin #forces, & prevented by #Dyrk3

Kudos to 1st author Madeleine & thanks to all collaborators!
