Broomfleet ✅

2nd awkward station of the day, just 11 trains stop here each day!
There’s not much here, just a couple of thin and narrow platforms.

That 1220 off 4 has left me with many questions, such as how come it stops at Staddlethorpe (Gilberdyke) and Broomfleet but not Howden?

Energy alone can account for up to a third of costs in ceramics manufacturing. At factory in Broomfleet, East Yorkshire, construction is under way on what the company describes as "the world's first fully electric tunnel kiln" for clay roof tiles.

Slight overload with the appearance of the 3 bewick's swans. probably the same birds that have spent the last week at Broomfleet, only the 2nd record this year.
Very much the most delicate & graceful of the 3 swan species that grace the reserve

What I think must be a hybrid Lesser x Russian Whitefront with 3,000 Pinks between Ellerker & Broomfleet late afternoon. Small size, tiny bill, long wings, dark tail but no yellow orbital ring... 🧐 Comments welcomed #yorkshirebirding #humberbirds

A first trip to Broomfleet Washlands, lots of Red-eyed Damselflies about (Erythromma najas). Males out patrolling their patches of water weed, whilst this female was at water’s edge.

One of several castles owned by the Clifford family. John Clifford "the Butcher of Wakefield" married Margaret Broomfleet the heiress to Londesborough Park in East Yorkshire and that became their main base.
Part of the Yorkshire Dales, Pendragon Castle Stands above the River Eden near Outhgill now a ruin. Legend links it to Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur, though the real castle rose in the 12th century. Its story is full of drama: Sir Hugh de

I’ve been trying to meet a pal to walk Howden to Broomfleet since November, but every weekend we plan it, the weather is like this. I don’t mind getting wet, but it would be no fun in this.

@mothiduk.bsky.social I wonder if you have any ID thoughts about this caterpillar. Found at Broomfleet Washlands, SE Yorkshire, 21st May. I think on a Bramble leaf. iNaturalist suggested a Tortricid Leafroller Moth.

Clifford married local heiress Margaret Broomfleet and lived a few miles from here at Londesborough. He escaped retribution at the Battle of Towton 1461 by being killed by a stray arrow the night before. The Dukes of Devonshire are descended from the Cliffords.

All those level crossings and one-road villages. I grew up not far from there (as kids we roamed a few miles, as far as Broomfleet), but more or less moved away at 18 and didn't appreciate it at the time.

I haven't visited the site itself (I've yet to venture north of Faxfleet and Broomfleet), but the Jeck/Watson recordings are wonderful.

In Broomfleet, just as you get back on the road, after the converted old station, there's a house with an honesty box with all sorts of pickles , sweets etc. The piccalilli is magnificent!
