Decent early evening shift on Pat's Pool ~ at least 4 nominate limosas in place, 3+ adults today & at least one juvenile (the same as y'day) - possibly a second in the sunshine. Also 85 Icelandic BTGs, 22 Ruff, single Turnstone & 5 Green Sands.

Decent early evening shift on Pat's Pool ~ at least 4 nominate limosas in place, 3+ adults today & at least one juvenile (the same as y'day) - possibly a second in the sunshine. Also 85 Icelandic BTGs, 22 Ruff, single Turnstone & 5 Green Sands.

At the most basic level, setting aside the red queen race about drones, and I defer to Sasho here on the details , they entered with artillery and AFV-heavy BTGs very very light on infantry even by NATO standards and now… very very much don’t

They were sustaining operations along both the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia fronts at close to 250-300 KM from their railheads just fine. BTGs had more than sufficient organic lift capacity to handle that. You can't form an actual analysis from anecdotes from ISW reports.

Both Russia and Ukraine had very good SAMs and kinda mediocre aircraft as a result of inheriting most of them from the Red Army, and Russia's attempt to do a decapitation run with the BTGs cost them a lot of the trained personnel they needed to run their now heavily untrained force.

Actual BN equivalents - i.e. BTGs on the ground with an adjustment to account for bde assets, not paper bns a regiment has. Unit deployments confirmed on the backend via KIA reports as well as captured documents.

The white ⬆️ show several, already moulted, grey 1w upperpart feathers in the juvenile scapulars,amazing when you remember it's only mid-July. Young Icelandic BTGs will look super fresh until September, when this bird will be a fully 1st winter individual.
