the 2 best books I've read this year are The Lies of Locke Lamora and Assassin's Apprentice. Both of them made me bawl and reel, both of them a masterclass in characterization, grief, cunning, and worldbuilding.
Year's not over yet. I may end up reading another banger.

As for Regal, um, Fitz didn't kill him. Instead he implanted a fierce loyalty to Kettricken's child, so that he basically reversed every decision he ever made. He went to aid Buckkeep, he returned the crown to Kettricken, he returned Patience's jewels, he rescinded his titles, etc.

while Fitz goes off to live in the woods, Verity and the Fool and all the dragons save Buckkeep, then all of the Six Duchies from the Raiders. Then they go off and fight the Raiders wherever else they were stationed, to get rid of them for good. Peace was restored to the Duchies

Up the creek without a paddle: a review of The Rain Wild Chronicles
We leave the cold northern realms of Buckkeep and the Outislands and return to the realm of Bingtown and the River Wild. The dragon Tintaglia and the people of Bingtown, whose asses Tintaglia saved from the Chalcedeans, agreed to herd the tangle of sea serpents (who are dragon larvae) to a spot suitable for them to undergo their metamorphosis. The dragons, about 15 of them, hatch, but they are weak and deformed. Only a few can communicate, and none of them can fly. Tintaglia ups and flies away, leaving the settlement of Cassarick to deal with this group of utterly dependent dragons. Securing food for them proves to be a burden, and and even smallish, malformed dragons are a potential hazard to the townfolk.
