Tiny worker Common Carder Bee in Grosvenor & Hilbert Park today. Still a good number of these about. Before the rise of winter-active Buff-tailed colonies, Common Carder was the latest species of bumblebee to stay on the wing.

#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... three county firsts found today: yesterday's Siberian Blue Robin in Shetland is just a day out from Orkney's first (and Britain's second); the Rufous-tailed Robin makes an amazing robin double but the latter was sadly found dead; and a Red-eyed Vireo. #rarebirds

😍 Happiness is being able to pamper an amply-sized fuzzy friend 🏵️🐝🥰

Such an adorable bumblebee, likely a buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris), resting on a purple flower. They frequently rest on flowers to conserve energy when they get tired while gathering food.

Most of the buzz & hum came from hundreds of Honey bees & also many Buff-tailed bumblebees but then there were the 🤫 butterflies .. love the quiet ones ❤️

A #WeeBee on a blue Ceratostigma/plumbago flower in my front garden. I have these plants in several borders because #Bees love them so. For a change, this one is a Buff-tailed Bumblebee rather than the ubiquitous Common Carder.

🌱 The garden has been very busy, insects making the most of a beautiful day. Been watching a huge buff tailed bumble bee- must be a queen, lumbering around the last of the trailing lobelia
