Once a common sight, this bee has lost massive amounts of its wildflower habitat and now faces a critical threat of extinction. To combat this, the RSPB, The Land Trust, and Buglife are teaming up to clear overgrown scrub, move soil, and transform the area into a flower-rich grassland haven.

Not the only Hampshire location for these!
My garden nettles in Bramley, North Hampshire have been teeming with them for the past few weeks - currently at 3rd instar stage.

A fascinating afternoon with Buglife at Fallin Bing, learning about the vital work they do to protect our invertebrates and restore habitats.

Great to meet the team and see this important conservation work firsthand. As a member of the Climate Action Committee, it's an issue close to my heart. 🌱🌍

One thing not mentioned in this is the massive decline in insect numbers in the UK - www.buglife.org.uk/news/bugs-ma...
Swifts, whose decline is mentioned in the article, are highly specialised insectivores. Gotta protect the bugs to protect the birds.

"Buglife has spent a decade collecting data on habitats so that they might be joined up. “b-lines” are imaginary paths criss-crossing the country like superhighways for bugs. So far more than 5,300 hectares of a planned 150,000 have been filled with flowers and grasses for pollinators."

This yellowjacket didn’t come to play.
Covered in pollen, locked on, and ready to ruin someone’s picnic.
Shot with the Sony A7CR and Sigma 105.
Pure attitude in under 15mm of insect.

20% fewer glaciers in 5 years sounds good compared to 63% fewer insects in 3 years. Good news are relative today?

Some pollinators take the spotlight AND the funding. But there are a lot of pollinators out there, and some need more help than others!
