From a high rampart at the castle Burg Stolpen in Saxony, Germany, this is a view of two heavy stone towers at the intersections of boundary and inner walls. The near tower shows 6 storeys and with a pitched roof. The other, in the distance is shorter. The background is of blue sky, white cumulus clouds, surrounding green fields and red-tiled roofs of the town houses without the castle walls. Once a prison for Countess Anna Constantia von Brockdorff - a former mistress of Augustus, the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland - who fell out of his favor after he reneged on his promise to marry her. Being well versed in the intrigues of court and politics, and with great influence, she was deemed too great a threat, and he had her imprisoned in the castle. She remained there 46 years - even after the Elector’s death - until her own death in 1765 at the age of 84.
