On the buttondown site you can read some teacher testimonies and look at the mailing list archive for this year. But we’re on TGT’s 4th year now.

Definitely don’t use substack. Not sure about Medium. I subscribe to a couple of buttondown newsletters. Also a big fan of old school website with blog 😊

Do any of y’all have newsletters or follow any?

I’ve been going back and forth between starting either a blog or a newsletter, and in the end I might do both but in different ways.

Was thinking blogging through Patreon free posts & newsletter maybe thru buttondown, also free?

Thoughts?

Buttondown allows custom css, but to what extent, I'm not sure - I'm going to experiment because I'd still like to use something like ShieldFont to poison text. I might serialize something on a limited-run newsletter, but I won't do it until I fuck over LLMs and scrapers.

Buttondown users, ICYMI (I did!): There's now a setting in your web archive (settings > design > web) that'll allow you to toggle on or off specific crawlers/indexers/scrapers. I have immediately changed my settings to block AI trainers and scrapers. More here.

Justin’s a good dude, I knew Buttondown when it was just him, and they’ve had good growth. While I don’t use them personally I do think they have a lot to recommend them for.

Buttondown nails white glove migration, API, and flexible pricing options for subscribers (disclosure: I'm a contract blog writer for them, but use them personally and would recommend them regardless)

Join me on Buttondown!

I'm going to be using socials less and Buttondown much more in the future.

Subscribers will be the first to read excerpts from upcoming books, they'll be the first to learn exciting news, and they'll have chances to win free copies of my books.

When I deleted my twitter account I think I had 10k followers 😬 Here I hover near 3k, which happened over 3 years, I think? My newsletter, when it was on substack, had 600 subscribers. Since moving to Buttondown in 2024, the newsletter has 595 subscribers.
