Animals don’t know they’ll soon be released when we trap them for tagging. I couldn’t help but wonder what went through the mind of this Arctic fox as I held her (Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada, summer 2025).🧪🌿🌎🦊

This Arctic fox was probably a bit surprised to see our camera trap—guess it wasn’t expecting paparazzi on Bylot Island! 😄 Nunavut, Canada. 🌿

It's not all wildlife over here, I sometimes post a few scenics or expedition-type shots, too. This was from camping on the arctic sea ice looking for narwhals back in June 2016 off of Bylot Island in the Canadian Arctic! Fun times!

In Molecular Ecology, we trace the origins of domestic Arctic fox lineages by comparing genomes of farmed and wild foxes. Congrats to Christopher Cockerill for leading the study; I contributed modestly with samples from Bylot Island. Read: bit.ly/4nRagIJ. 🧪🌿🌎🦊 #wildlife

We publish in Ecology 30 years of Arctic wildlife monitoring on Bylot Island (Nunavut, Canada)! Our long-term dataset tracks 35 species across 400 km² of tundra, providing rare insights into community dynamics, food webs, and climate responses. Open data for all at bitly.cx/OnOI2 🌍🦊🦉🦑 🧪🌿🌐

Just back from animal ecology field work on Bylot Island, Nunavut. Taking a moment to share this picture of me walking near one of our beautiful short-term camps (background=Baffin). Not all work was that glamorous; I’ll share more ‘usual’ moments later. Now heading to Alert, Ellesmere Island.🧪🌿🌎🦉🦊🐻‍❄️

Studying Arctic foxes on Bylot Island (Nunavut, Canada), or being studied by them? The collared fox in this photo is a male named Ram, captured this summer. Great shot by my excellent MSc student Laurianne Dumont. 🧪🌿🌎🦊 #MovementEcology #wildlife

Took hundreds of pictures this summer on Bylot Island (Nunavut, Canada), but only now had time to go through them. This molting Arctic fox giving a cute nose-lick while staring at me in the tundra is one of my favorites. 🌿🦊

Where land protection limits predator subsidization from anthropogenic food sources, Arctic and red foxes may co-exist with minimal conflict. 🧪🌿

Over the years, we've published multiple #MovementEcology papers using the Arctic fox as a model. But I’ve never shared this video of a flying Arctic fox!
Filmed on our Bylot Island study area by my former PhD student Clément Chevallier. #wildlife 🧪🌿🌎

The January issue of Functional Ecology features our Arctic fox study showing how mechanistic models that combine species traits, landscape features, and energy-based behaviour help better quantify interactions in natural communities. A bit technical but very interesting. Read: urls.fr/DRn3xm

We contributed data from our Arctic study site at Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada. It is fascinating to see how collaboration among many scientists from many countries can generate new insight into the ecology of our planet. 🧪🌿🌎🌐🦉🦑🦊🐻‍❄️
Led by Viktoriia Radchuk, an international collaboration shows phenological shifts in response to changing temperatures allow populations to remain stable or even increase in numbers.
