Our #CAMBioMed 2nd annual meeting was completed today in Chania. Very useful discussions on our #monitoring framework and organizing our #field work for this year, #CitizenScience activities, #AI assisted analysis of photo-quadrats, and many more.

There is no virtual replacement for synergies created during in person project meetings. Our annual @cambiomed-biodiversa.com meeting hosted in Pisa is a perfect example of it. A productive and bonding experience.

#CitizenScience with #scuba diving! 🌊🤿 Over two days in #Lesvos, 18 divers surveyed 3 dive sites, in 2 locations, collecting valuable data on rocky reefs, macroalgae, sea urchins, and fish as part of the Marine Forest Days Event, organised within the @cambiomed-biodiversa.com project.

On August 30th, another CAMBioMed Marine Forest day brought citizens and scientists together to monitor algal forests and fish assemblages in the Adriatic Sea (Croatia) using the protocols developed by @obsdelmar.bsky.social & CAMBioMed partners @marineforests.bsky.social @szndohrn.bsky.social

Under PUREEF-Y and CAMBioMed Biodiversa+ projects we started in-situ incubations to many macroalgae species.
These habitats host many organisms, vital for maintaining a healthy reef.To better understand their connection to the ecosystem we need to look at their metabolic functions.

In collaboration with Progetto Mediterranea, CAMBioMed embarked on an ocean literacy campaign focusing on climate change and invasive species in the Aegean Sea. This has been an enriching experience for all participants including researchers involved.

A main goal of CAMBioMed is to standarise monitoring of infralittoral rocky reefs across the Mediterranean Sea. In this video, Prof. Hugh Possingham explains why this is important for any ecosystem.

Researchers from #StazioneAntonDohrn and the #UniversityofPisa implemented #CAMBioMed 's monitoring protocols for temperate rocky reefs in Tuscany last week. In contrast to the Cyclades Islands (Greece), macroalgal forests were present whereas no alien herbiovores were recorded.

The diamond lizardfish Synodus synodus, a subtropical Atlantic taxon, is more widespread in the Mediterranean Sea than previously assumed as demonstrated by our observations during the field campaigns of the Biodiversa project @cambiomed-biodiversa.com
