This is an upsetting story, particularly the bits about parents preventing their children from getting support from CAMHS .

(It’s also noteworthy how transphobia, once again, acts as a gateway to the far right)

In the same way, youth gender service referrals now need to go through CAMHS - with its own obscene waiting lists. Of course nobody knows which young people waiting on CAMHS list are trans, so numbers are being hidden.

Which schools are able to do nothing to support a child while they wait 4 years for CAMHS to eventually tell them what they already know?

Took eldest for CAMHS appointment this morning. At least, it looked and sounded like eldest - but he got weighed and measured with no arguments, was charming and chatty, and went back to school happily afterwards, so perhaps it wasn't him at all? Our regular nurse said 'New school going well then?'

This is genuinely, literally the reason I stopped getting NHS support after aging out of CAMHS.

The Executive Dysfunction is an evil process that kills so much of my organisational skills I’ll even struggle to engage in my hobbies!

Pumpkins carved ✔️ plants mulched, ready for winter ✔️ ivy cut back (again) ✔️ an hour of work done (reviewing CAMHS scripts) ✔️ theatre tickets ordered (Everyone's Talking About Jamie ✔️

Sorry should have added CAMHS also… We need to get this fixed.

Homemade lemon tendercake, with blueberry compote, and a fond farewell to our wonderful resident doctor in training. This @nigella.bsky.social recipe has become a veritable ritual, and always goes down a treat in our NHS CAMHS team. 🍰

Yep the SEND and CAMHS system is totally broken.

Some kids just cannot cope with large class sizes, or their neglected learning difficulties, become disruptive and make the entire experience miserable and unworkable for everyone else.

I’m a CAMHS psychiatrist and an autism parent. It all comes down (or should) to impact on function. It’s analogous to neat people saying “I’m a bit OCD”. Co-opting a genuine debilitating condition as a harmless personality profile.

If this is all REFUK can offer on education then our young folk are f**ked. Totally without practical solutions for the current crisis in compulsory education: teacher shortages, lack of SEND/CAMHS services, lack of vocational ex, insufficient funding in schools, OFSTED not fit for purpose, NEETS…🤷🏻‍♀️

CBT gave me epistemic PTSD. Everything services has done to me has given me PTSD.

"Intervention" was systematic human rights violations.

I was made suicidal. CAMHS are the main institutional killer of Autistic children in the UK.

[CN: conversion practices, child abuse, transphobia]

When they say "loving concern" might be criminalised, they're lying, unless you think any of this is "loving" and not deeply abusive.

CAMHS/school did the wild version of ABA to me where they invented nonsense stories about my motives, threatened to destroy my life if I don't go to school, called me names, assassinated my character, ignored everything I said and deprived me of basics like food, water, sleep and leisure time.

Earlier this year we wrote to prolific user of Oxevision CNTW to raise safeguarding concerns following FOI disclosure that showed Oxehealth/LIO staff had independently identified, accessed, viewed & retained clear video of a child on a CAMHS ward without their or their family's knowledge or consent
October 25, 2026 at 11:06 AM
Until Oct 24 there was no option to turn the camera off locally & CNTW appears to have offered false reassurance, telling patients on CAMHS wards to place a card on their door when they got changed or needed "private time", despite cameras still recording 24/7 & being shared with an external company

Not that I condone any cuts to arts and culture but if you spent all that money on CAMHS services you'd probably cut the prison community by 50k

New JMIR MedInform: Integrating Natural Language Processing in Child and Adolescent Mental #health Services #research Using Normalization Process Theory: Implementation Report
Integrating Natural Language Processing in Child and Adolescent Mental #health Services #research Using Normalization Process Theory: Implementation Report
Background: Anxiety problems are prevalent among autistic children and adolescents and those with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Natural language processing (NLP) is increasingly used to structure information from #ehrs (EHRs), but its implementation within secure child and adolescent mental #health services (CAMHS) #research environments is less frequently reported. Objective: This study documented the specification, governance, integration, and evaluation of an NLP-enabled information extraction workflow within the Oxford #health National #health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust CAMHS #research setting for extracting documented anxiety treatment information and outcome-related text from the EHRs of autistic young people and those with ADHD and examined implementation using normalization process theory (NPT). Methods: A multidisciplinary team developed a locally deployed NLP pipeline to identify labeled text spans describing presenting problems, medication attributes, psychological therapies, and treatment outcomes in pseudonymized EHR notes. Implementation followed an iterative seven-phase road map: (1) defining #research questions, (2) identifying key constructs, (3) codeveloping an annotation schema, (4) training human annotators, (5) resolving annotation discrepancies, (6) large-scale annotation of EHR data, and (7) developing and evaluating the NLP model. NPT was applied throughout to guide implementation and evaluate progress. Quantitative outcomes (data volume processed, annotation reliability, and model performance) and qualitative feedback were collected to assess implementation success. Results: The source cohort comprised 454,127 notes from 5906 #patients; 697 (0.2%) randomly selected, manually annotated notes from 302 (5.1%) #patients were used for model development and held-out evaluation. Category-specific position-based Krippendorff α values ranged from 0.325 to 0.579 for problem, psychological therapy, and outcome spans and from 0.665 to 0.967 for medication spans. Agreement was highest for medication names, doses, and frequencies and lowest for cognitive problems and treatment outcomes. Held-out macroaveraged F1-score was 0.87 (95% CI 0.86-0.89) across the 4 medication labels and 0.71 (95% CI 0.68-0.73) across the 5 problem labels, psychological therapy labels, and outcome labels; label-specific F1-score ranged from 0.60 to 0.98. Team-generated implementation records indicated that multidisciplinary schema development and clear protocols supported shared understanding and engagement, whereas annotation burden, documentation variability, data access delays, and computing constraints impeded implementation. No major adverse events or harms were reported. Conclusions: This report demonstrates the feasibility of integrating NLP tools into NHS CAMHS #research workflows to extract structured information on anxiety treatments from routine clinical records. The NPT framework provided a structured approach for documenting the organizational work, barriers, and adaptations involved. External validation, refinement of less reliable labels, and further evaluation are required before broader use.
