Just finished James S A Corey's Faith of Beasts (good, suffers a little from being a middle volume with no real beginning or end, but the Carryx are a great creation) so on the look out for something next.

Review: The Faith of Beasts by James S.A. Corey
The second novel in Corey's non-Expanse series opens up the universe of the setting. In the first novel, we were introduced to a planet of humans who had deduced that they must have originally evolved elsewhere but who had no cultural history of where they had come from. The ultimate question of their origin becomes a minor issue when they are invaded by the Carryx, an alien empire engaged in an ancient war. Selected humans were transported to the Carryx world palace to become a client species tasked with aiding the war effort against the enemies of the Carryx, in particular the Deathless.

Oh that I get, it’s just like, “Lothark” isn’t a translation of anything, nor is Carryx. I wonder how those proper names come about.

Re-reading your review, the alien nature of Draka morality makes me think of the alien Carryx from the Mercy of the Gods by James S. A. Corey. The Carryx do feel like they have the right to conquer and enslave other species (similar to things in Drakon) and the way they do it seems quite similar!

Decided to doodle some creatures from Ty Franck and @abraham.bsky.social (AKA James SA Corey)'s Captives War.

Finally got my claws on a copy of book two and it's everything I hoped it would be!

For starters, here's my version of a Carryx.

In an ideal world, I'd have the time to draw my interpretations of the cast as well as the Carryx and all the different alien moyaties.

I'm re-reading James S.A. Corey's "Mercy of Gods" before diving into the sequel ARC 🤓 and wow, this is amazing implied worldbuilding. 💖

"The ship that waited for it was small, but well-appointed. The pilot wasn’t an animal, but a Carryx artificer successful enough that it was still male."

Finally finding the time to catch up with one of last year's major SF releases.
BOOK REVIEW: The Mercy of Gods, by James S. A. Corey
Teaser The Carryx are not like us, but they might yet have a use for us. Sweeping across space, the Carryx conquer and enslave all they encounter. And if you do not prove useful, then you will soon…

I'd say the difference is, as far as our characters know, no one is coming to save them ever. Though there is an intergalactic war happening against the Carryx.

At the speed that was is happening it might not be enough... And we've already seen the Carryx exterminate two captive species.

“Faith of Beasts” is a lot of world building but somehow fails to insure me to care about the characters - my thoughts here #book #scifi

Yeah, I'm liking it more. The first one was a little rough for me too, mostly because it was a weirder concept than I was expecting going in and it took a while for the book to settle into the Carryx universe, but this one's clicking better for me

There's a new TV series in the works from the creators of "The Expanse". "The Captive's War" is currently a book series about a technically advanced alien civilization, the Carryx, that exploits other civilizations, including humans. Amazon will carry the TV series.

Currently reading THE FAITH OF BEASTS by James S.A. Corey, #2 in the Captive's War series. "As the human captives spread through the battlefronts of empire, the awesome power of the Carryx becomes clear. And with it, a desperate plan for their destruction." www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/james...

I do like the hints that these are not the only humans the Carryx have met.

I suspect I'll find out more in book 2.

Started reading The Faith of Beasts, the second book in the Captive's War series by James S. A. Corey. I really enjoyed the first book, and am loving getting back into the worlds of the Carryx in this one.

A slowburn space opera with high stakes and a mesmerising universe: I loved The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey #SpaceOperaSunday
The Mercy of Gods
The people of Anjiin know they're living on an alien planet, but they don't remember why or how they got there. They're about to discover they are not alone in the universe, and be made to prove their right to continue to exist in it. But the Carryx are not the only aliens watching humanity. Which side of an eternal war will offer the best chance of survival?

But yeah, the question is: how do you resist when you're facing submission or total annihilation? And the survival the Carryx is one of subservience so deep that within a couple generations all your children will know is worshiping them.
