For this CBA19 session on Thursday 15, Alice de Moraes Amorim Vogas, programme director of the COP30 presidency was joined by IIED executive director Tom Mitchell. She shared the main objectives of the COP30 agenda, including strengthening multilateralism and advancing implementation of climate action. This is a recording of a plenary session from the 19th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA19), which took place from 12-16 May 2025. The plenary on Tuesday 13 looked at adaptation from urban and nature perspectives. This took the form of two panels. The first was led by the Brazillian Ministry of Cities, discussing their support to urban communities to plan for and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The second was led by Indigenous Peoples and local community representatives from the Latin American region who shared perspectives on incorporating local and traditional knowledge in nature-based solutions. The 19th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA19) in Recife, Brazil from 12-16 May 2025 hosts hundreds of people collectively seeking to enable community-driven climate action. The marketplace offers participants to share tools, products, games or new approaches to locally led adaptation, as well as lessons and insights from your experience (failures and successes). The CBA19 closing plenary will feature three sections. First, the winners of the Shark Tank process will give their novel adaptation idea pitches to the full conference. Second, the most critical key messages will be presented to a diverse panel who will reflect on them in the context of COP30, the shrinking donor landscape, and increasing complexity in accessing resources at the local level. Lastly, this will be followed by an official closing of CBA19. Please note this session will be broadcast only from Belem; there will be no interaction. This session will be recorded.
