A cartoonist named Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada was tried as a terrorist and sentenced to 30 years in prison for having anti-Trump comics in his car.
Prosecutors connected him to a 2025 anti-ICE protest he didn't even attend because he was in the same book club as others who were.

I literally forgot that my art was published by DC Comics once. About 10,000 years ago I did an illustration for a Transmetropolitan art book for the CBLDF.

Many years ago, @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com emceed an auction to benefit the CBLDF @penguicon. We had a bunch of terry pratchett books from when he’d been a GoH the previous year, and Neil would auction them off going “Oh, dear, I’m sorry. Another common one. It’s signed”. 😂😂
At this point, the more rare copies are the ones he HASN'T signed

The CBLDF appealed the case all th way to SCOTUS, which refused to hear it.
Eventually Diana slipped out of FL and escaped to NYC. FL tried to get him extradited, but New York authorities refused, because it was ridiculous.
It wasn't until 2020, 26 years later, that Florida dropped the matter.

in my mind, too few people are aware of who sits on the board of the CBLDF and how their presence on the board has shaped decisions like waiting to act on the hot tub incident for a decade, swerving to defend yiannopoulos, or evangelizing nfts to the tcj.
