3/🧵 I teamed up with @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social, @rfunkfordham.bsky.social and @ernestotiburcio.bsky.social for this analysis of voter files and validated survey data from 2018-2022. This is part 1 of a series. Part 2 will run the same analysis on the 2024 CCES data when it's released.

The claim at issue is that there has been a *change over time* in the political leanings of the disengaged population.

You can’t dispute this with old CCES surveys that don’t include the relevant year. What are we doing here?
April 2, 2025 at 10:48 AM
For everyone just sucking down the Shor analysis, this is a useful counterpoint.

Looking forward to the CCES analysis as well.
1/🧵 "More voters help Republicans" is reshaping Dem strategy after 2024. We put this claim to the test with a deep dive into voter files and survey data. Results? Non-voters remain disproportionately Democratic while GOP simply turns out their base better.

Our literal conclusion is: “the debate isn't settled. The real test comes with the 2024 CCES data…”

We set up a hypothesis that we plan to test (open to replication) when the complete data is available—the exact opposite of pre-committing to a conclusion. This is how science works.
But it sounds like they have pre-committed to a conclusion rather than waiting for the data

Am not commenting much on the US pre-election polls as a lot doesn't make sense. If Harris is +4 with CCES, you'd expect better numbers for the battleground state polling by them...

Harris 51.0% (+4.0%)
Trump 47.0%
