What a shot by CCOR-1 showing a CME (non Earth-directed) leaving the Sun with the moon in the foreground. Super cool!

A COMET JUST PLUNGED INTO THE SUN: Hours before yesterday's X-flare, a comet plunged into the sun and disintegrated. NOAA's CCOR-1 coronagraph on GOES-19 recorded the death dive en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCOR-1 spaceweather.com

The X1 CME looks to be a full halo, albeit messy. The signature is weak, but you can see some eastward propagation when looking at CCOR-1 diff images.

Check out this BEAUTIFUL full-halo CME which has now cleared the CCOR-1 field of view. It is fast with a transit time of ~1.5 days. Preliminary models indicate an impact sometime Monday night (tomorrow!!!) and my guess is G2-G3 conditions are possible pending arrival at Earth.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) that includes a faint halo outline is emerging in updated imagery courtesy of GOES-19 CCOR-1. This appears to be related to farsided activity and is not Earth directed. SolarHam.com

This is cool. While Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS is currently 2.35 AU from Earth on the farside of the Sun, it is visible in the CCOR-1 coronagraph aboard NOAA’s GOES-19 satellite. Worachate Boonplod found the +11th magnitude comet in recent images, and traced out its path through CCOR-1’s imager:

This CME is really stunning. In CCOR-1, you can see the blast surrounding the occulting disk in the center in what we call a "full halo." When this happens, if the source region is on the Earth-facing disk, we know the CME is coming at Earth.

That is a thing of beauty, honestly. Textbook full-halo shockfront as seen by CCOR-1. The main bulk of the CME is headed east, though so the CME was not aimed squarely at Earth.

The first natural solar eclipse ever observed by a space-based coronagraph(?). Watch the lights go out as🌕zig zags between🛰️ &☀️

This could be a first. On Sept. 21st, NOAA's CCOR-1 coronagraph onboard GOES-19 observed a solar eclipse from🌎orbit.

NOAA CCOR-1 imagery is showing a full halo signature albeit a faint one with this X1.9 CME. It is possible Earth will see a nibble from the shock front in a few days. Agency modeling from NASA and NOAA should narrow down an arrival time and verify the Earth-directed component.

There’s a new solar-observing coronagraph on the block. Last week, the NOAA released their first images from CCOR-1 aboard GOES-19. Expect to see images for public access starting in 2025. Here’s our latest post on the instrument for

Here we see the M7.1 CME emerging in CCOR-1. It looks to be a partial halo and likely has some Earth-directed components. The northeastern bias is clearly seen as well. Now, we await agency predictions and modeling to estimate arrival time at Earth and relative impact strength.

Here is the CME in LASCO C2 (left) and CCOR-1 (right) which has a later frame of the CME further spread out. The front is traveling pretty slowly and away from Earth.

A fairly large CME is currently visible in the latest imagery courtesy of GOES-19/CCOR-1. This is related to a farsided event and is heading completely away from Earth. SolarHam.com

A filament eruption near AR 4334 occured around 1730 UT Jan 8 with a C5.6 flare. The CME produced a partial halo CME in CCOR-1 imagery.
The eruption has been modeled by NASA so far with Earth impact anticipated around 10 UT (+/- 7 hr) on Jan 10. We'll see what shows up...
