From 2024 to 2026, CFF partnered with commercial fishermen to study Atlantic surfclams and seafloor habitat on Nantucket Shoals within the Great South Channel Habitat Management Area under EFP 23073.

Our team just wrapped the latest Seasonal Survey trip on Georges Bank — 49 stations, 25 species, and the smallest American lobster we've recorded since 2019 (10 mm!). Plus a high catch of ocean pout and a successful sonde test.

Over two research survey trips, our HabCam team completed over 1,300 nm of tracks. Along the way, we found a large school of herring, some lobsters, a glove, and potential monkfish mating.

This May our team tagged nine loggerhead sea turtles aboard the F/V Kathy Ann — caught in the water, measured, fitted with satellite tags, and released.

Can you detect a sea turtle without seeing one? This May our team collected environmental DNA samples in NC to test whether leatherback presence can be confirmed from water alone — a non-invasive way to track an elusive species.

For our final spring cleanup, 8 CFF volunteers headed to Town Neck Beach in Sandwich and pulled out 550+ lbs of debris — most of it a tangled mass of rope, netting, and trap components buried on the marsh side of the beach.
