Virginia State University dominated Shaw University in a CIAA football game on October 17, winning 76-13. The Trojans’ second quarter saw a remarkable 35-0 run, allowing them to establish a significant lead. Shaw's offense briefly shone with a touchdown by Reggie King Jr. but struggled overall against Virginia State's defense. The Trojans' quarterback, Rashaan Matthews Jr., showcased mobility and strength, supported by running back TJ Mordecai's powerful plays. Virginia State's special teams also played a crucial role, highlighted by a blocked punt. Following this match, Shaw faces ongoing challenges in their CIAA schedule, particularly in defense and consistency, while Virginia State aims to assert its strength moving forward in the conference.
