Some important #OntarioElection deadlines are coming up - including making sure you’re registered to vote.

Doug Ford is counting on a short timeline and cold weather to keep us away from the polls.

This thread has links and important dates to help make sure he doesn’t get away with it.

👍@CIHI_ICIS for launching this important series. The profiles are an assortment of contextual metrics to reflect the health of a community. The metrics should be published at least annually; and made available at the Ontario Health Team level to support decision making and drive resource allocation.

For those who don't follow me regularly, the data come from @covid_canada @CIHI_ICIS @RyersonNIA @NoLore @OurWorldInData

Here's a summary of the sources/methods.

@RyersonNIA @DrSamirSinha @CIHI_ICIS @NoLore

Do you have a breakdown of cumulative number of COVID-19 cases & deaths in LTC & RHs BY PROVINCE for May 25? I'm trying to set up 1st vs 2nd wave trend graphs & am using May 25 as cutoff b/c of date of the @CIHI_ICIS snapshot report.
December 7, 2024 at 2:12 PM
I haven't finished adjusting the longterm care and retirement home data for Canada. My analyses until today started the 2nd wave at May 26, which is last date we can compare to OECD countries, courtesy of @CIHI_ICIS.

But, per capita cases in LTC/RH is higher now than Wave 1

Maybe this will encourage Canadian decision makers to act:

Based on COVID-19 hospitalization costs recently reported by @CIHI_ICIS

Allowing 90% of Canadian population to be infected in the coming weeks will cost $10 billion dollars in hospitalization costs alone.

Last piece of info we need: number of staffed hospital beds in Canada.

Courtesy of @CIHI_ICIS we know that pre-pandemic Canada had 60,000 staffed hospital beds. Despite increases during the pandemic, there's a serious staffing shortage, so 60K is probably a reasonable estimate.

Not only do those lives matter and do you care about it, but your voice matters. It especially matters for those whose voices go unheard.

From @CIHI_ICIS data we know that the majority of severe outcomes are still happening in the lowest income quintile neighbourhoods.
