13% success rates at #CIHR, is a really 87% fail rate for>4000 scientists. At a time when 🇨🇦 is investing millions to recruit more scientist into a broken funding environment. 🇨🇦, U need a strong science foundation 2 attract success. #CIHR, fix your science foundation, it is eroding in real time

My pet peeve about doing CIHR reviews is that they want reviewers to write a summary. The applicants have already written TWO SUMMARIES. Why? Why do I need to write one too? It's an absolute waste of energy and time.

Also true for CIHR. ☹️
The system was created when success rates were much higher. Having also sat on NSF panels where grants are binned instead of precisely ranked, I feel that we’re pretty good at defining ~quartiles, and not great at ranking within those.
