I have been very kindly gifted a little friend for my PSP :)
A photo of my white PSP, currently displaying Final Fantasy’s equally white title screen. Just sitting on top is a tiny replica of a clear blue WonderSwan Color.

During our PSP episode @gameonysus.bsky.social’s clear one wasn’t charged so she couldn’t show @sarahpodz.bsky.social what the UMD looked like spinning. Late but here it is.

The fun thing about clear plastic consoles is seeing the hardware inside. Decided since this is a Decepticon PSP, it needs to run on energon.

For #RandomGameSaturday this week I've got Tales of Phantasia for GBA. The psp version recently got a great translation patch, and would you believe I've never played through this far enough to even clear the past segment? So I'm taking some time to do that. It's pretty fun!

Ace Combat X CLEAR!

Oh my goodness, what a game! :D
A screenshot from Ace Combat X (PSP). In this cutscene, a crowd of ordinary citizens watch a live video feed of a superweapon's destruction. This was supposed to be its grand unveiling as an object of a nation's dominance.

I remember this time so clearly as a Nintendo DS day-oner who never owned a PSP (mainly due to price). At time the PSP was the clear winner from a power standpoint. I thought I’d wasted my cash on a DS.

But the PSP’s library never really grabbed me and I knew lots of other folks who felt similarly.

The PlayStation Portable released in Japan on December 12, 2004. This image (by @johntv.bsky.social) from the launch summed up the mood: the PSP was the future and the DS was doomed. The result was very different -- so what happened? I explore that in my new post! ravi64.com/playstation-...
A joke image from the Sony PlayStation Portable launch in 2004. Three people are playing with their PSPs while a single Nintendo DS sits in the middle, with forlorn messages like "why is everyone ignoring me?" on the DS screen.

Oh, and seeing as people are curious what I bought, it's this thing (the Anbernic RG406H)

I blame @detectiveken.bsky.social
A photo of the clear purple version of the Anbernic RG406H portable emulation device. Imagine an unholy combination of a GBA (original model) and a PSP.

Was doing a clear out earlier, and what I would give for Sony to make a modern PSP!

This was basically wielded to my side when I was younger (alongside an iPod)
