Colours of Svalbard – Arctic Skua
I witnessed this scene on an expedition on Svalbard, and thought the stunning contrasts of the yellow, red, brown and blue colors just needed to be captured. And yes, those skuas were actually there. 🙂

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 there’s an enemy called Clair, another called Obscur, then another one called Clair Obscur. You, of course, control the Expedition 33. It surely is a game of contrasts.

Today, the Polarstern sets off for the Arctic: From Tromsø in Norway, our research icebreaker sets off on the "Contrasts" expedition. Over the next two months, the international research team on board wants to investigate why the sea ice is melting and what consequences this has.🧊

Today, the Polarstern sets off for the Arctic: From Tromsø in Norway, our research icebreaker sets off on the "Contrasts" expedition. Over the next two months, the international research team on board wants to investigate why the sea ice is melting and what consequences this has.🧊

Can the color of melt ponds reveal the sea-ice thickness below? 🧊 And can we measure this from #space? 🛰️ On the @awi.de CONTRASTS #expedition, we’re testing this with a 200+ band hyperspectral camera and co-located ice thickness measurements for a large variety of #Arctic ponds.

I know I JUST finished the tutorial in Expedition 33, but a cool little non-spoilera-y bit I discovered is that Clair Obscur is the French equivalent to the Italian “chiaroscuro”

I kind of love this interpretation.
Especially the way it contrasts the “good” ending of Expedition 33 which as @ela-bambust.bsky.social has repeatedly (correctly) pointed out, positions 2 men deciding that for a woman to properly grieve she must use deific powers to commit genocide, as correct.

Das arktische September-Minimum war größer als erwartet. Ursache sind Schwankungen im #Klimasystem wie der ungewöhnliche Beaufort-Wirbel, der dickes Eis anders verteilte. Die #CONTRASTS-Expedition zeigt, dass Wetterereignisse die Schmelze stark beeinflussen.
