France has announced a climate roadmap that aims explicitly to phase out coal by 2030, oil by 2045, and "gas for energy purposes" by 2050!!

This is a historic moment, the first time a major economy has pledged *specifically* to phase out fossil fuels. 🙌 💚
Faraco said France had decided to push ahead on its own after a proposal for a global fossil fuel roadmap was blocked at the COP3o climate summit in November. Brazil, which was steering the climate negotiations, agreed to pursue a voluntary roadmap process instead and has asked willing countries to make submissions. Frustration at COP30 led to the creation of the Santa Marta conference, which is taking place outside the UN process and is being co-hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands. Nearly 60 nations were in attendance, from the European Union and major fossil fuel producers Canada and Norway, to developing oil giants Angola and Nigeria and small island developing states like Tuvalu. Nations are not expected to produce any binding commitments but a set of proposals for countries wanting to move their own economies away from fossil fuel reliance. The conference takes place against a backdrop of soaring fuel prices and a global supply crunch stemming from the Iran war, and energy security has been a prominent theme.

These billionaires and multimillionaires, who comprise the wealthiest 0.1% of the US population, are also running down our planet's safe climate space at 183 times the rate of the global average. The data, produced by Oxfam and the Stockholm Environment Institute ahead of the Cop3o climate summit, highlights the chasm between the carbon-guzzling rich, who are most responsible for the climate crisis, and the heat-vulnerable poor, who suffer the worst consequences. At one end, the wealthiest 0.1% emit an average of 2.2 tonnes of CO, every day, equivalent to the weight of a rhinoceros or an SUV. At the other, a citizen of Somalia burns off just 82 grams of CO each day, barely the mass of a single tomato or half a cup of rice. In between, the average for everyone on the planet is 12kg a day, about as heavy as a standard car tyre. The analysis was provided for the launch of Oxfam's annual report on carbon inequality, which underscores how lavish lifestyles of superyachts, private jets and vast mansions often combine with investments in polluting industries to create climate-destabilising individual footprints. The study, which was released on Wednesday, found that 308 of the world's billionaires had a combined CO tally that, if they were a country, would make them the 15th most polluting country in the world. Still parties and organisations with certain levels of hope on an agreement for the NCQG on climate finance.It is difficult to have hope, but I'm sure there are many negotiators still trying to achieve the best output towards COP3O.
